The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) is spearheading the investigation into a shooting during former US President Donald Trump’s rally in Butler, Pennsylvania. Special agents from the FBI Pittsburgh Field Office, crisis response team members, and evidence response technicians were promptly on the scene.

According to an FBI statement on X, the Bureau has assumed lead responsibility for the federal investigation. They emphasized their full commitment to the probe, with assistance from the US Secret Service and local law enforcement. The public has been urged to contact the FBI tip line with any relevant information.

Secret Service agents swiftly surrounded Trump and escorted him offstage after gunshots were fired. Despite blood being visible on his face, Trump raised his fist to the crowd before being led away. The US Secret Service confirmed one spectator was killed and another critically injured in the incident, with the shooter also being neutralized. Trump later confirmed the bullet pierced the upper part of his ear but stated he is in good condition.

In a statement by senior advisers Chris LaCivita and Susie Wiles, they assured that Trump is “doing well” and looks forward to attending the Republican convention in Milwaukee. Trump expressed gratitude towards law enforcement for their rapid response and extended condolences to the victims' families.

Speaking with CBS News, law enforcement sources revealed that the shooter used an AR-style rifle from a distance and was positioned on top of a shed outside the Secret Service’s security perimeter. US President Joe Biden condemned the attack, calling for unity in America to prevent such violence.
