India-Singapore Relations: Strengthening Ties for the Future
External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar highlighted the growing strength of India-Singapore relations, emphasizing the need for modernized collaborations amid global changes. Prime Minister Modi’s visit signals intent to enhance partnerships in technology, manufacturing, and sustainability, crucial for both nations' future trajectories.
External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar has declared that India and Singapore's ties have grown 'extremely strong' over the past two decades, suggesting that the time is ripe to elevate this bilateral relationship. In an exclusive interview with Singapore's The Straits Times, Jaishankar noted that ongoing transformations in India and global shifts necessitate a more modern partnership.
In support of this, Prime Minister Modi chose to visit Singapore early in his third term during his two-nation trip from September 3-5, which also includes Brunei. Jaishankar emphasized the importance of a robust partnership amidst a volatile and uncertain world, stating that the relationship is rooted in considerable trust and understanding.
Jaishankar called for enhanced cooperation in sectors such as semiconductors, green technologies, and electric mobility. He highlighted Prime Minister Modi's deep connection with Singapore, which he believes will be pivotal. Additionally, the minister noted India's significant progress in digitalization, infrastructure, and talent development, topics central to the recent India-Singapore Ministerial Roundtable.
The minister underscored India's contributions to food and health security, particularly in light of Covid-19. Reflecting on the global scenario, he mentioned India's strengthened Indo-Pacific commitment under the Act East policy, indicating that India's role in the developing global equilibrium aligns with Singapore's and ASEAN's interests.
Prime Minister Modi also reaffirmed hopes that the discussions will further deepen the India-Singapore Strategic Partnership, particularly in areas like advanced manufacturing, digitalization, and sustainable development. He noted that both Brunei and Singapore are crucial partners in India's Act East Policy and the Indo-Pacific Vision.
Modi arrived in Brunei today and will head to Singapore on September 5, symbolizing a commitment to strengthening these international ties. (ANI)
