In a move set to enhance undersea defense capabilities, Israel and Greece recently inked a Memorandum of Understanding in Athens for the deployment of the BlueWhale autonomous submarine system to the Hellenic Navy.
Rear Admiral (ret.) Alexandros Diakopoulos, Chairman of the Hellenic Aerospace Industry, emphasized that this collaboration not only aims to strengthen Greece's underwater defense but also marks a significant step towards technological self-reliance. He highlighted the vessel's multifaceted features, such as anti-submarine warfare and intelligence capabilities.
BlueWhale, developed by Israel Aerospace Industries, is a cutting-edge uncrewed submarine capable of performing a wide range of covert missions at sea. Boaz Levy, President and CEO of IAI, expressed pride in the strengthened ties with Greece through this agreement. Germany's Bundeswehr Navy is also set to integrate BlueWhale into its Baltic Sea operations.
