External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar convened a meeting with National Security Advisor Ajit Doval and Chief of Defence Staff General Anil Chauhan in Parliament to discuss the ongoing conflict in West Asia.

Jaishankar informed the Rajya Sabha that Prime Minister Narendra Modi is personally overseeing the situation, emphasizing the government's dedication to the safety of Indian citizens abroad. The minister highlighted that advisories have been sent to Indians in Iran, and relevant ministries are actively coordinating their efforts.

Communication with Indians in the Gulf continues, with the Indian Embassy in Tehran assisting students affected by the conflict. Efforts are also underway to safely repatriate Indians stranded in Qatar and Jordan. Jaishankar confirmed the loss of two Indian mariners, with one still missing, and stressed India's stakes in a stable West Asia, crucial for energy security.

The Minister expressed concern over the conflict's spread and its impact on regional security. He reiterated India's call for dialogue and diplomacy to defuse tensions, pointing to a previous government statement urging restraint. These remarks were delivered amid disruptions and protests by Opposition MPs.
