India is set to deepen its strategic alliances with Mauritius by appointing a Defence Attache and finalizing a vital oil and gas supply agreement amidst the current energy crisis, External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar announced. His remarks came during a two-day visit, emphasizing the strengthening partnership between the two countries.

Highlighting the crucial nature of defense and security cooperation, Jaishankar stated that these areas serve as a foundational pillar for bilateral relations. He made a significant announcement regarding the establishment of a Defence Attache in Mauritius, anticipating it will bolster existing engagements between India and the island nation.

Amidst global uncertainties, notably in West Asia, energy cooperation remains a focal point. India and Mauritius are on the verge of formalizing an agreement to ensure stable oil and gas supplies to Mauritius. This collaboration aims to enhance Mauritius' energy security. Additionally, India has committed to numerous community development projects and contributions to healthcare and education in Mauritius.
