Two minor brothers drowned in the Alaknanda river at Devprayag in the Pauri Garhwal district of Uttarakhand, police said on Monday.
The incident occurred on Sunday evening when they were playing at Dhaneshwar ghat of the river along with two other children, they said. While Abhishek (8) had slipped and fell into the river, his elder brother Adesh (12) had jumped in to save him, Bah Bazar police station SHO Sunil Panwar said. Both of them were swept away in the swift currents of the river, he said. They were sons of Hiralal Mishra, a resident of Pundal village. The other two children informed Mishra's family about the drowning after returning home, he said.
