A plan to upgrade to a treaty an agreement with Rwanda to deport asylum seekers there will allay legal concerns and make Britain's immigration policy consistent with international law, interior minister James Cleverly said on Wednesday.
"Our intention is to upgrade our agreement to a treaty as soon as possible," Cleverly told lawmakers after a UK Supreme Court ruling that its scheme to send asylum seekers to Rwanda was unlawful.
"That will make it absolutely clear to our courts and to Strasbourg that the risks laid out by the court today have been responded to (and) will be consistent with international law."
