A 44-year-old German national, Tovius Maximilian Rehn, was apprehended at the Indo-Nepal border on Friday, officials reported.
Rehn was attempting to enter Nepal from India with an expired visa when Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB) officers detained him in the Sonauli area, according to ASP Atish Kumar Singh. Authorities have registered a case against him under Section 14 of The Foreigners Act. The local intelligence unit, which wishes to remain anonymous, disclosed that the Intelligence Bureau has been notified and Rehn is currently being questioned.
The Sonauli area in Uttar Pradesh's Maharajganj district serves as a significant transit point between India and Nepal.
