Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal has contested his arrest by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) in the Delhi High Court, arguing it was an 'insurance arrest' designed to keep him in custody. The hearing took place on a legal holiday observed for Muharram. Justice Neena Bansal Krishna presided over the hearings, where both parties presented their cases, and the court reserved its decision.

Kejriwal's lead counsel, Senior Advocate Abhishek Singhvi, described the arrest as a 'sham', pointing to previous Supreme Court and trial court orders that entitled Kejriwal to be released. The CBI's counsel contested these claims, asserting that no legal requirements for prior notice were breached.

The case centers on alleged irregularities and corruption in the now-scrapped Delhi Excise Policy, which prompted a CBI investigation. The high court will hear further arguments on Kejriwal's regular bail plea on July 29.
