West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has urged for the creation of an India-Bhutan river commission during a recent Niti Aayog meeting in Delhi. She emphasized the need for improved communication regarding rising water levels to protect Bengal's life and property.
Addressing the assembly, Banerjee fiercely opposed BJP demands to divide Bengal and create union territories. She asserted, 'I dare anyone to try to divide Bengal,' and accused the BJP of attempts to separate north Bengal.
Banerjee highlighted Bengal's status as a highly flood-prone state, criticizing the Center for not providing sufficient flood mitigation funds and failing to manage water discharge from the Damodar Valley Corporation. She called for a resolution against any move to divide Bengal, invoking Rabindranath Tagore's legacy of unity.
