The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Thursday claimed a massive 'scam of hundreds of crores of rupees' in the drain desilting work carried out by the AAP-led government's agencies in Delhi, demanding a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) probe into the matter.
Virendra Sachdeva, president of the Delhi BJP unit, alleged that the corruption and mismanagement by the AAP government and the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) contributed to the tragic deaths of three civil services aspirants in a flooded basement library and other rain-related incidents in the city.
Responding to these allegations, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) pointed out that the accusations were old and maintained that it was Urban Development Minister Saurabh Bharadwaj who had insisted on a third-party audit of the desilting work. AAP added that Chief Secretary Naresh Kumar had been directed in May to provide a list of desilted drains for verification, which had not been received.
