Nepal Bolsters Border Security Amid Bangladesh Turmoil
Nepal has heightened its border security with India after the removal of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina in Bangladesh, fearing infiltration from the crisis-ridden country. The Ministry of Home Affairs has directed security agencies to be on high alert to prevent unauthorized entries into Nepal.
Nepal has ramped up its border security measures with India in response to the recent upheaval in Bangladesh, which saw Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina ousted. Concerns are high over possible infiltration of Bangladeshi citizens escaping the unrest.
The Ministry of Home Affairs has issued instructions to security agencies to maintain heightened vigilance along the border regions to deter illegal entries. Police sources indicate that the Home Ministry has specifically directed security personnel to take extensive precautions against such movements.
'Circulars have been distributed to all border security personnel instructing them to monitor and take action against potential unauthorized entries from other countries,' stated a senior police official. The alert has been extended from Kakarbhitta in the East to Lumbini in the West. Historical precedents, such as the illegal entry of Rohingyas following Myanmar's military takeover, have further fueled these precautions.
The chaos in Bangladesh reached a tipping point after Prime Minister Hasina fled the country in a military aircraft, leading to severe widespread violence, including an attack on her residence as anti-government sentiment boiled over.
