In a significant outreach to the distressed Hindu community, Bangladesh's Chief Adviser Muhammad Yunus visited the renowned Dhakeshwari Temple on Tuesday. Addressing the congregation, Yunus urged patience before judging the actions of his interim government amid the recent surge in violence and vandalism.
Yunus, having taken charge on August 8 following the ouster of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, pointed to 'institutional decay' as the root cause of the nation's current troubles. He emphasized the importance of ensuring equal rights for all citizens while seeking assistance from the community in maintaining peace.
The visit came in the wake of attacks on minority Hindu properties and temples. Recent demonstrations in Dhaka and Chattagram highlighted the community's demands for special tribunals, parliamentary representation, and protective legislation. During his visit, Yunus condemned the attacks and called on the youth to safeguard all minority communities.
