Kursk Region Evacuates Amid Ukrainian Advance
Authorities in Russia's Kursk region have initiated an evacuation of the Glushkov district after Ukrainian forces advanced into the border area. The district, housing around 20,000 residents, will see coordinated evacuation efforts by police and state bodies. Ukrainian troops reportedly advanced one to two kilometers into Kursk.
Authorities in Russia's Kursk region have announced the evacuation of the Glushkov district in response to advancing Ukrainian forces. Acting governor Alexei Smirnov confirmed the decision late Wednesday, noting the district's proximity to Ukraine and its population of approximately 20,000 people.
Smirnov detailed on the Telegram messaging app that the evacuation would be coordinated by police and other state bodies. The move comes as Ukraine reported its troops had advanced one to two kilometers into Kursk since the beginning of the day and cleared the Russian border town of Sudzha of Moscow's forces.
Russian officials have estimated that close to 200,000 people are being evacuated following these cross-border hostilities.
