India and Philippines Strengthen Defence Ties with Co-Development Initiatives

India has extended an invitation to the Philippines to collaborate with its defence industry in the co-development and co-production of military equipment. The proposal was presented by Defence Secretary Giridhar Aramane during the fifth India-Philippines joint defence cooperation committee meeting in Manila on Wednesday.
The discussions covered a wide range of topics, including a comprehensive assessment of the defence and strategic partnership between the two nations. The talks come at a time of mutual concern over China's aggressive actions in the South China Sea. Both sides emphasized the importance of enhancing their military cooperation.
Aramane highlighted India's focus on boosting its defence manufacturing capabilities and exporting military hardware. He also acknowledged the Philippines' efforts to modernize its armed forces and discussed India's vision for 'Aatmanirbhar Bharat' or self-reliant India. Both nations expressed their commitment to supporting each other in achieving self-reliance in defence production.
