The project, originally approved in 2010 to connect Shillong and Tura, had its budget inflated from Rs 1303.83 crore to an astonishing Rs 2366.77 crore, following several cost revisions.
The investigation stems from ongoing arbitration proceedings, where allegations of fraud, record tampering, and corruption were raised. The police are actively pursuing a detailed investigation to uncover the full extent of this alleged conspiracy, which has significantly impacted public finances.
