Mumbai police have announced a month-long prohibition on flying drones, microlight aircraft, paragliders and hot air balloons, citing security concerns. The decision was made under section 163 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS) on Monday, with the order effective from October 31 to November 29.
The police stated that there is a risk of terrorists or anti-social elements utilizing these flying objects to target VVIPs, endanger public safety, and cause damage within the Mumbai Police commissionerate area. The restrictions aim to mitigate these potential threats and safeguard citizens and public property.
Drones and similar activities will be allowed exclusively for police aerial surveillance or with special permission from the Deputy Commissioner of Police (Operations). Violators will face punishments under section 223 of the Bharatiya Nyay Sanhita. This order aligns with security measures for the upcoming Maharashtra assembly elections and the anniversary of the 26/11 Mumbai terror attack.
