A Russian guided bomb struck a high-rise apartment block on Wednesday evening in Kharkiv, Ukraine's second-largest city. The attack injured at least seven people and caused significant damage to the building, according to officials.
Kharkiv Regional Governor Oleh Syniehubov reported on the Telegram messaging app that the impact triggered a fire, destroying much of one entrance. He stated that seven people were wounded, with others potentially trapped under the rubble. Meanwhile, Kharkiv Mayor Ihor Terekov reported the injury toll at 12, noting that several floors of the nine-storey building had been destroyed.
Kharkiv has remained under Ukrainian control since the early failed advance of Russian forces towards Kyiv at the outset of the February 2022 invasion. However, it continues to be a frequent target of Russian air attacks.
