Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma announced that four villages in Cachar district have become child marriage-free, marking a significant milestone in the state's ongoing battle against child marriage.
The success has been attributed to initiatives focused on the welfare of the girl child, such as the 'Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao' project, and recent legal measures.
A top police official reported that in an aggressive crackdown, more than 5,000 individuals were apprehended in special drives undertaken throughout the state last year, with new measures continually being implemented to eradicate the practice.
