The Mumbai police's Anti Narcotics Cell successfully conducted a significant drug raid, confiscating cocaine, mephedrone, and codeine worth an estimated Rs 1.65 crore. This operation led to the arrest of six individuals, including two Nigerian nationals, highlighting the ongoing battle against drug trafficking in the city.
The decisive action was carried out by the Ghatkopar and Worli units of the ANC on New Year's Eve, underscoring the relentless efforts to curb the drug menace. In a detailed breakdown, the first case involved the arrest of 40-year-old Sanjib Sarkar from Kurla East, who was caught with 396 grams of cocaine valued at Rs 1.18 crore.
In a separate incident, 28-year-old Nayum Shaikh was apprehended with 900 bottles of codeine in Govandi, valued at Rs 4.5 lakh. Additionally, two Nigerian nationals, one of them a woman, were detained with 170 grams of mephedrone, worth Rs 42.50 lakh. Last year, the ANC confiscated nearly 3,500 kilograms of narcotics, arresting 184 people in 93 cases, reflecting their continued vigilance.
