The Union tribal affairs ministry has highlighted a lack of progress in West Bengal under PM JANMAN, a central government initiative launched in November 2023 to support Particularly Vulnerable Tribal Groups (PVTGs) with essential services like housing, roads, and education.

Union Minister of State for Tribal Affairs, Durga Das Uikey, informed the Lok Sabha that West Bengal's government has yet to present proposals to establish multi-purpose centers, fully funded by the ministry, as part of PM JANMAN.

The ministry, in collaboration with other state and union territories, is using PM Gati Shakti to assess the population of PVTGs and address infrastructural gaps. However, West Bengal remains at a standstill as no progress has been made in housing, roads, and educational facilities.
