U.S. Resumes Military Aid and Negotiates Ceasefire Proposal with Ukraine
The U.S. and Ukraine have agreed to resume military aid and intelligence sharing, following a U.S. proposal for a 30-day ceasefire in Ukraine's conflict with Russia. Both nations aim to expedite a minerals agreement, despite recent tensions in U.S.-Ukraine relations.
The United States has announced the immediate resumption of military aid and intelligence sharing with Ukraine. This decision follows discussions in Saudi Arabia, where Ukraine expressed readiness to adhere to a U.S. proposal for a 30-day ceasefire in its ongoing conflict with Russia. A joint statement from the two nations confirms the agreement.
In a press briefing, U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio emphasized the urgency of the matter, stating that President Donald Trump is eager to see the conflict resolved swiftly. Rubio indicated the proposal is now awaiting a response from Moscow, urging Russia to engage in subsequent negotiations.
The ceasefire proposal, described by Ukraine President Volodymyr Zelenskiy as 'positive,' aims to address fighting on the frontline as well as air and sea confrontations. Additionally, efforts are underway to finalize a comprehensive agreement on Ukraine's critical mineral resources, despite previous diplomatic tensions. Discussions also included potential security guarantees for Ukraine.
