Jharkhand Boosts Revenue with Mineral Cess Hike and New Policies

The Jharkhand government, in a move to boost state revenue, has increased the cess on mined minerals up to four times, according to officials. This decision was made during a cabinet meeting presided by Chief Minister Hemant Soren.
Notably, the cess on coal per metric tonne dispatch rose from Rs 100 to Rs 250, and iron ore's cess jumped to Rs 400 from Rs 100, disclosed cabinet secretary Vandana Dadel. Other changes included a hike on bauxite cess to Rs 116 from the previous Rs 70.
In addition to the cess revisions, 31 proposals were sanctioned, including changes to a rule requiring medical college graduates to serve the state post-PG. The cabinet also declared storm and heatwave as special local disasters and approved the installation of a statue of tribal leader Birsa Munda.
