Taiwan vs. Chinese Influence: President Lai's Bold Stance

Taiwan's President Lai Ching-te has issued a stark warning about China's escalating influence campaigns aimed at absorbing the democratic island into its fold. In a public statement, he pledged a comprehensive response to combat these efforts that threaten Taiwan's autonomy.

Lai highlighted cases where China's infiltration targeted various segments of Taiwan society, including media and military personnel, using Taiwan's democratic freedoms against it. He warned of China's tactics involving division and subversion, labeling them as actions by foreign hostile forces under the Anti-Infiltration Act.

Amid heightened tensions, Lai proposed 17 measures, such as tightening entry reviews for Chinese citizens and adjusting the flow of resources across the strait. Beijing, however, reiterates its stance that Taiwan remains a part of China, warning against any separatist movements.
