BSF Halts Ceremonial Retreats Amid Rising Tensions

The Border Security Force (BSF) announced on Thursday the suspension of its daily evening ceremonial retreat ceremonies at three border check posts in Punjab. This move aims to prioritize public safety amid heightened tensions following a significant counter-terrorism operation by India.

India launched strikes against nine terrorist bases located in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir, a direct response to the April 22 terrorist attack in Pahalgam. In the wake of these actions, BSF has tightened security measures, leading to the cancellation of the ceremonies at three Joint Check Posts (JCPs).

The ceremonies, which involve the lowering of the Indian flag alongside Pakistan Rangers at Attari, Hussainiwala, and Sadki, are suspended until further notice. The BSF had initially planned to continue the events without opening border gates or conducting the customary handshake, but public safety concerns took precedence.
