Efforts to secure a ceasefire in Ukraine appear to be gaining traction, according to Finnish President Alexander Stubb. Following conversations with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy and U.S. President Donald Trump, Stubb expressed cautious optimism about peace prospects, noting improvements both on the ground and in negotiations.
During a press conference in Oslo alongside his Norwegian counterpart, Stubb emphasized that while a timeline for the ceasefire remains uncertain, a declaration could ideally be reached soon. He and Norwegian Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Stoere initiated a discussion with Trump after coordinating with Zelenskiy and Nordic leaders.
Despite apparent progress, fighting continues, with both Russian and Ukrainian forces reporting active combat. Russia announced a brief ceasefire to mark the World War Two anniversary, while Trump urged a 30-day ceasefire, threatening further sanctions should it be disregarded.
