The Gujarat government's SWAGAT initiative, a citizen's grievance redressal platform, has successfully resolved over 27,600 complaints in the last three-and-a-half years, according to state officials. This platform, launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in 2003, allows citizens to directly lodge their complaints with the Chief Minister's Office (CMO) using an online portal.
Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel has been instrumental in resolving these grievances, with a 90.48% success rate in addressing 105 complaints between June 2024 and May 2025 alone. The initiative has reportedly strengthened communication between the government and citizens, evidenced by over 33,000 complaints under the 'Write to CM' initiative since November 2021.
Recently, the government introduced an escalation matrix to ensure timely responses, where complaints unaddressed by an official are automatically redirected to higher authorities. This improvement, alongside the program's feedback system, underscores the initiative's commitment to efficient grievance redressal.
