Delhi High Court Seeks Police Response in Anti-CAA Protest Charges

The Delhi High Court has requested a response from the police regarding a plea by Asif Iqbal Tanha. Tanha challenges the charges framed against him for alleged violence during the 2019 anti-CAA protests. The hearing is set for October 30 alongside similar cases involving Sharjeel Imam and others.

The Delhi High Court on Monday called for a response from the police after student activist Asif Iqbal Tanha filed a plea challenging the charges against him related to violence in the 2019 anti-CAA protests.

Justice Sanjeev Narula issued a notice to the Delhi Police and scheduled the next hearing for October 30, to be addressed alongside other pleas from Sharjeel Imam and several co-accused in the case.

The charges stem from the violent events in 2019-2020 linked to the anti-CAA protests. Authorities initially framed these under the IPC and other acts, with allegations of abetment and hate speech after a speech by Imam was deemed inflammatory.
