Authorities claim Laulu, along with two other masked men, spread liquid accelerant in the interior of the Adass Israel Synagogue and ignited it on December 6. The attack, which police believe may have international links, resulted in minor injuries to a worshipper preparing for morning prayers.

Charged with arson, reckless conduct endangering life, and car theft, Laulu remained silent during his court appearance and did not seek release on bail. The federal and state police, aided by Australia's domestic spy agency, are investigating the incident as potentially politically motivated, with significant resources dedicated to bringing all involved to justice.
