Supreme Court Intervenes in Influencer's Snake Venom Case

The Supreme Court has stayed proceedings against YouTuber Elvish Yadav related to alleged snake venom recreational use at 'rave' parties. The court issued notices to the Uttar Pradesh government and complainant Gaurav Gupta following Yadav's plea. The charges stem from a dismissed ruling by the Allahabad High Court.

The Supreme Court on Wednesday paused trial court proceedings against YouTuber Elvish Yadav in a case concerning the alleged use of snake venom as a recreational drug.

A notice was issued by a bench of Justices M M Sundresh and Joymalya Bagchi to both the Uttar Pradesh government and complainant Gaurav Gupta. This came after Yadav challenged the chargesheet and consequent criminal proceedings brought against him.

The chargesheet links the substance to 'rave' parties attended by foreigners. Yadav, arrested by Noida police in March last year, claims no incriminating items were found on him and questions the credentials of the informant who initiated the complaint.
