Russian State Duma Chairman Vyacheslav Volodin is set to lead a parliamentary delegation to China, as reported by Vedomosti newspaper. Scheduled visits include Beijing and Changchun, highlighting the ongoing diplomatic relations between Russia and China.
This delegation visit comes ahead of Russian President Vladimir Putin's planned trip to China at the end of August and the beginning of September, to attend ceremonies marking the end of World War Two in China. The war, which concluded on a different timeline in Europe and Asia, remains a significant historic event, with deep ties to Russia's and China's past.
While Europe marks the end of World War Two on May 8, Russia observes May 9 as Victory Day. Meanwhile, Asia observed the conclusion on September 2 with Japan's surrender, after the atomic bombings. World War Two, with its immense casualties and lingering impacts, remains a poignant point of connection between these nations.
