Uttarakhand Chief Minister Orders Probe into Panchayat Poll Violence

Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami has initiated a magisterial inquiry into the recent alleged violence during panchayat polls in the districts of Nainital and Betalghat. This decision comes after displeasure voiced by the Uttarakhand High Court regarding the prevailing law and order situation.

The Chief Minister has ordered the immediate transfer of two police officials, reacting to the court's concerns. The responsibility of submitting a detailed report within 15 days has been given to the Kumaon Division commissioner. Dhami also announced that the Crime Branch, CID, will handle the investigation of all FIRs filed during these incidents.

The high court's order for the home secretary and director general of police to appear concerning a petition on poll violence further pressures the state. Dhami reassured that the state is firm on maintaining law and order, promising strict action against any individuals found guilty in the matter.
