In a distressing incident, the partially charred body of a female college student was discovered in a field along National Highway-48, police confirmed on Wednesday. The victim, a second-year Bachelor of Arts student attending a government college while residing in the girls' hostel, was found by a passerby on Tuesday afternoon.
Authorities suspect that she was murdered by her ex-boyfriend, who allegedly set her body on fire following their recent breakup. The student, having left a leave letter at her hostel on August 14, had not returned, prompting her parents to file a missing persons report after failing to trace her due to her mobile phone being switched off.
With a case now registered, police have detained the ex-boyfriend for questioning. Meanwhile, investigators are awaiting the post-mortem results to ascertain the precise cause of death and to determine if there was any sexual assault involved. Legal proceedings will proceed accordingly based on further findings.
