The Punjab government has announced a special assembly session set for September 26 to 29, aimed at introducing amendments to help flood victims. Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann highlighted that new legislation concerning compensation will be a key focus during the session, addressing the widespread damage caused by recent floods.

The calamity has submerged over 2,300 villages, affected more than 2 million people, and devastated crops across five lakh acres. Additionally, 57 lives have been lost, and around seven lakh people are now homeless. Infrastructure damage includes 3,200 schools, 19 colleges, 1,400 clinics and hospitals, and extensive road and bridge destruction.

Mann estimated the economic damage at approximately Rs 13,800 crore. He emphasized the government's resolve to deliver relief and rehabilitation efforts comprehensively. Prime Minister Modi's recent pledge of Rs 1,600 crore in aid, alongside Mann's call for revisions in disaster funding norms, underscores the scale of relief needed.
