The Supreme Court on Friday provided temporary relief to a group of candidates by permitting them to sit for the Chhattisgarh Judicial Service Examination set for September 21. This decision comes in light of eligibility concerns revolving around their current status with the Bar council.

Chief Justice B R Gavai, alongside Justices K Vinod Chandran and N V Anjaria, instructed the Chhattisgarh Public Service Commission (CGPSC) to provisionally accept these candidates in the preliminary judicial exams. The failed issuance of admit cards was primarily due to a criterion requiring candidates to be actively enrolled as advocates at the time of the vacancy advertisement.

The Court specified that this interim measure does not establish any legal rights for the candidates and also relaxed the three-year practice requirement for those affected by a recent judicial ruling. The affected petitioners include public prosecutors and government advocates who had challenged the High Court's dismissal of their pleas.
