CPI(M) Condemns BJP for Blocking 'Martyrs' Day' Observance in Tripura

The CPI(M) criticizes Tripura's BJP-led government for not permitting 'Martyrs' Day' events at Birchandra Manu, honoring 13 individuals killed in 1988. Despite denied permissions, tributes continued statewide. Party leaders allege fire and attacks on offices by ruling party activists as tensions persist.

The Communist Party of India (Marxist), CPI(M), has criticized the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)-led Manik Saha government in Tripura for disallowing the observance of 'Martyrs' Day' at Birchandra Manu in the South district.

The event honors 13 individuals, including 11 CPI(M) leaders and workers, who were killed on October 12, 1988, during the Congress-TUJS regime. This year's attempt to pay homage was thwarted, according to CPI(M) Tripura secretary Jitendra Chaudhury, who expressed his concerns on Facebook.

Chaudhury lamented that the BJP, which had no involvement in the 1988 event, still obstructs the remembrance, indicating a lack of respect for democratic values. Allegations have emerged of a CPI(M) office being set ablaze, evidencing heightened tensions in the region. Nonetheless, 'Martyrs' Day' was commemorated across Tripura, excluding the restricted area.
