In a decisive move against drug trafficking, Mizoram's Excise and Narcotics Department reported 87 cases, leading to 112 arrests in the Champhai district for 2024. This district borders Myanmar, making it a hotspot for illicit trade, officials revealed.

Compared to last year, there has been an uptick in arrests and cases under the Narcotic Drugs & Psychotropic Substances Act, with 71 cases and 95 arrests previously. This year alone, drugs seized included 12.616 kg of heroin and 87.639 kg of methamphetamine tablets, known in the region as 'crazy drugs'.

The Mizoram Police, along with the Excise and Narcotics Department and the Young Mizo Association (YMA), launched 'Operation Jericho' in September. This initiative targets the eradication of drug trafficking and addiction, aiming to complete its mission by December.
