In a crucial operation on Tuesday, security forces recovered a potent 40-kg improvised explosive device (IED) in Chhattisgarh's Sukma district, averting a potentially catastrophic situation. Identified as the handiwork of Maoists, the explosive was discovered along the Fulbagdi-Badeshetti road by a joint team comprising the Central Reserve Police Force's (CRPF) 159th battalion and district police.
Authorities revealed the IED was strategically placed to attack security forces operating in the area. Expert handling led to its safe neutralization, preventing what could have been a major tragedy. Officials noted that this discovery highlights the persistent threat faced by security personnel in the Bastar region, particularly during anti-Naxal operations.
Historical data shows that Maoists frequently deploy IEDs to target security forces, with tragic incidents previously impacting both personnel and civilians. The recent recovery comes in the wake of a deadly explosion on June 9, which claimed the life of Additional Superintendent of Police Akash Rao Girepunje and injured others, reaffirming the ongoing risks.
