A police sub-inspector and a software engineer have been taken into custody following the suicide of a 28-year-old doctor in Satara district, Maharashtra. The police official's missing phone, believed to hold crucial evidence, is yet to be recovered.
The deceased doctor, who was found hanging in a hotel room in Phaltan town, accused the sub-inspector, Gopal Badane, of multiple instances of rape, and software engineer Prashant Bankar of mental harassment. Both were arrested following accusations of rape and abetment of suicide.
Suspend sub-inspector Badane is currently under interrogation about the phone's location, while Bankar's police custody has been extended by two days after his appearance in court on Tuesday.
