In a significant move, the Jharkhand High Court has directed the state government to install CCTV cameras in all police stations by the end of the year. This decision comes in response to a petition filed by Shaubhik Banerjee, who claimed he was unlawfully detained at a police station.
During the court proceedings, Chief Justice Tarlok Singh Chauhan and Justice Rajesh Shankar stipulated that the detailed project report and tender process for the cameras should be completed by December 31. The state government was also instructed to submit a compliance report by January 5.
The case, involving the deletion of crucial CCTV footage at the Bank More police station, highlights the urgency of installing a reliable surveillance system across police stations to enhance accountability and transparency within law enforcement agencies.
