India has mobilized urgent assistance for Sri Lanka in the wake of Cyclone Ditwah, which has wreaked havoc across the island nation. The Indian High Commission announced on Friday the provision of 4.5 tonnes of dry and 2 tonnes of fresh rations. This assistance includes staple foods, ready-to-eat items, and other nutritional supplies crucial for survival.

The relief supplies arrived via Indian naval ships INS Vikrant and INS Udayagiri as part of 'Operation Sagar Bandhu.' India stands steadfast in its commitment to the 'Neighbourhood First' policy, determined to support Sri Lanka during these trying times. The aid delivery marks a significant gesture of solidarity as coordinated efforts continue to unfold.

As Sri Lanka braces for an 'unprecedented disaster' with rising water levels threatening Colombo and Gampaha, severe weather has also triggered widespread power outages. Major hydropower plants have shut down due to infrastructure failures, complicating recovery efforts. So far, 56 deaths have been reported, underscoring the urgency of the situation.
