Amid the chaos caused by Cyclone Ditwah, Indian authorities successfully evacuated at least 400 nationals stranded at Colombo airport on Sunday. The operation involved flights C130 and IL 76, deployed to return individuals to Delhi and Trivandrum, respectively, after delivering humanitarian aid to Sri Lanka.
Sri Lanka is currently facing severe disruptions following the cyclone, which prompted a state of emergency declaration. The nation has suffered from extensive flooding, landslides, and flight cancellations. With over 212 fatalities reported, the Indian High Commission has played a pivotal role in ensuring the safe return of affected Indian citizens.
Acting swiftly as the crisis unfolded, India's Acting High Commissioner to Sri Lanka, Dr. Satyanjal Pandey, met with the stranded nationals, providing assurances and facilitating support through food and water. The mission, in collaboration with the Indian Air Force and commercial airlines, highlights the robust emergency response amid this humanitarian crisis.
