Goa BJP MLA Michael Lobo has voiced serious concerns over the apparently lax licensing procedure for a nightclub in Arpora, Goa, where a horrific fire claimed the lives of 25 individuals. Lobo revealed the establishment's license was issued without the requisite documentation by the local panchayat.
Lobo, representing the Calangute constituency, underscored the necessity for heightened safety measures, especially as Goa is a prime tourist destination. The incident raises questions about the accountability of various departments in enforcing safety protocols. He criticized the issuance of a fire license without a No Objection Certificate from the pollution control board.
In the aftermath of the tragedy, four staff members linked to the nightclub have been arrested, and the owners, Saurabh and Gaurav Luthra, are expected to be taken into custody. Lobo has communicated his concerns to Chief Minister Pramod Sawant and advocated for collective responsibility to prevent future incidents. This devastating event has spotlighted the urgent need for regulatory reforms in nightclub safety protocols.
