In a significant legal decision, a federal judge on Monday invalidated former President Donald Trump's executive order that aimed to halt wind energy projects across federal lands and waters. The order, described as 'arbitrary and capricious,' was deemed unlawful by Judge Patti Saris of the US District Court for Massachusetts.
The ruling comes after a coalition of attorneys general from 17 states and Washington, DC, led by New York Attorney General Letitia James, challenged Trump's directive. The executive order, issued on his first day in office, put a pause on leasing and permitting for wind energy ventures—a move now overturned.
Massachusetts Attorney General Andrea Joy Campbell celebrated the victory, highlighting the protection of substantial investments and the preservation of green jobs. "This ruling ensures access to reliable, affordable energy and aids Massachusetts in meeting its clean energy and climate objectives," said Campbell in a written statement.
