Tensions Eased: Israel Halts Planned Strike Amid Lebanese Request
Israel postponed a planned strike on Yanouh in southern Lebanon after the Lebanese army requested site access to address a ceasefire breach. The Israeli military agreed to halt the strike temporarily. Israel and Lebanon, following a U.S.-brokered ceasefire in 2024, have faced ongoing tensions despite efforts to uphold peace.
Israel has put a planned strike on hold in the southern Lebanese village of Yanouh following a request from the Lebanese army to address a ceasefire breach at the site. The decision was announced by an Israeli military spokesperson.
Originally, Israel issued an evacuation warning for Yanouh, targeting infrastructure linked to Hezbollah. However, after the warning was released, the Lebanese Army sought permission to access the site, which had been declared in violation of the ceasefire agreement.
This request prompted the Israel Defense Forces to momentarily freeze the planned airstrike. This development follows a U.S.-brokered ceasefire agreement in 2024 between Israel and Lebanon, which had ended over a year of conflict. Despite commitments to peace, both sides frequently accuse each other of violations.
