Ceasefire at Risk: Assassination of Hamas Commander Sparks Tensions
The assassination of a senior Hamas commander by Israel jeopardizes the ceasefire in Gaza. Hamas urges the U.S., led by President Trump, to ensure Israel complies with the truce. The killing has heightened tensions, with both sides maintaining military control over parts of Gaza.
In a severe blow to the fragile Gaza ceasefire, Israel's assassination of Hamas commander Raed Saed has heightened tensions. Thousands of Hamas supporters rallied at his funeral, chanting slogans of resistance and mourning the senior figures killed alongside him.
Khalil al-Hayya, speaking from exile, confirmed Saed's killing in a broadcast, marking it as the most significant assassination since the ceasefire's inception. He emphasized that ongoing Israeli ceasefire violations threaten the agreement's survival, calling on the U.S. to pressure Israel into compliance.
The truce remains delicate as Israeli and Hamas forces control different parts of Gaza, with disputes over disarmament and territorial administration. Meanwhile, a planned U.N. International Stabilization Force for Gaza is in the works, aiming to maintain peace amid escalating tensions.
