The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has made significant progress in the 2019 murder case of Pattali Makkal Katchi (PMK) worker Ramalingam. Officials announced that two accused individuals, including a previously proclaimed offender, have been arrested.
The primary accused, Mohammed Ali Jinnah, hailing from Thanjavur district, was apprehended and had a reward of Rs 5 lakh on his head. He is believed to have played a central role in the brutal killing, allegedly orchestrated by members of the banned Popular Front of India (PFI). Jinnah's role as the former district president of PFI involved conspiring, supervising, and coordinating with other accused parties.
Working with intelligence from the Tamil Nadu Police's Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS), NIA also arrested Asmath for providing sanctuary to Jinnah over the years. This comes after the recent arrests of additional absconding proclaimed offenders and their accomplices. The probe, taken over by NIA from local police in 2019, remains active as investigators piece together the conspiracy.
