Diplomatic Fallout: British Spy Expelled from Russia
Russia expels a British diplomat after the Federal Security Service identifies them as a British spy. The FSB states the diplomat was working undercover for British intelligence. The Russian Foreign Ministry warned severe responses if London escalates the situation, emphasizing intolerance towards such activities.
Russia announced on Thursday the expulsion of a British diplomat, whom the Federal Security Service (FSB) identified as a spy for Britain's intelligence service.
The FSB, which succeeded the former Soviet KGB, accused the diplomat of working undercover. The individual has been given a deadline of two weeks to exit Russia.
Russia's foreign ministry summoned Britain's Charge d'affaires in Moscow to lodge a protest, emphasizing that Moscow will not tolerate undeclared intelligence activities by British agents on Russian soil, and warned of a strong retaliatory 'mirror' response if the UK escalates the issue.
