The Supreme Court has overturned a Punjab and Haryana High Court order that directed a CBI probe into purported illegal conversion of residential land for the construction of the upscale Ambience Mall in Gurugram. The apex court declared the High Court's decision as flawed, based on unverified data.

The bench comprised of Justices J B Pardiwala and Sandeep Mehta, stated that the judgement dated July 10, 2020, from the High Court was unsustainable in both legal and factual terms. Additionally, ongoing high court proceedings on related issues will remain unaffected.

The case spotlighted alleged de-licensing and construction on land originally intended for a residential complex, raising suspicions about collusion between developers and officials. The Supreme Court's decision also paused a National Green Tribunal order concerning environmental compensation from the developer.
