Karnataka's Deputy Chief Minister D K Shivakumar has appealed to the central government to approve Karnataka's plan to increase the height of the Almatti dam across the Krishna River.

The project, facing opposition from neighboring states Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, and Maharashtra, aims to raise the dam height from 519 meters to 524 meters but is caught in a legal and financial tangle.

Despite backing from the Krishna Water Disputes Tribunal-II, the lack of Supreme Court interference, and the Karnataka government's readiness to allocate significant funds, the project struggles amid regional disputes and escalating land acquisition costs.
